Creating Landforms and Water Features
to enhance your outdoor environment.
Woolnough Residence:
An old patio is recycles into a
garden wall saving it from the
landfill.
At Landforms, we are committed to being good stewards of the environment. We
offer a wide range of earth friendly landscape solutions. We utilize the latest
solutions to decrease our carbon foot print.
Green Roofs: In its simplest terms, this means putting plants on a roof.  The
plants
are installed in a special planting media that helps to reduce the effects of
building
runoff on our environment.  The plants help to decreases the storm water
runoff by using
this water to grow. With a layer of vegetation between the sun and
your roof
, your cooling cost in the summer will decrease substantially. A layer of
plant material and soil media between your building and the environment acts as
a thick layer of insulation to lower your heating cost in the winter months.
Landforms is a certified Hortech green roof installer.
Rain Water Gardens: These gardens are comprised of plants that do well with
large amounts of water in a short period of time. The
se gardens also thrive when
there is little or no water.   This is important because when it rains
, our buildings
and paved surfaces tend to create a large amount of water. Rain
water gardens
help to slow this water down and filter it before it goes back into our drinking water
or storm sewers.
Native Landscapes: Native landscapes are created using plants that are native to
the area. This means that these plants are not invasive species from another part
of the world. These plants usually require less attention and water due to the fact
that they have evolved in this climate.
Permeable Hardscapes: Installing pavers, in place of concrete or asphalt, helps
to allow a small amount of water to be absorbed into the ground. Permeable
pavers are pavers with voids left between the blocks
and these voids are filled
with a course aggregate. The voids let a considerable amount of water absorb
into the ground
, keeping it from the storm water systems. The course aggregate
helps to filter the water before it
reaches our ground water.
Locally Sourced Materials: Not only does using local products make sense for
our local economy
, transporting materials shorter distances means a savings of
fossil fuel and less freight cost
, which translated into a cost savings to you.
Wetland Reclamation: By replacing, expanding, or improving wetlands we help
our environment in a number of ways
:   giving a place for wildlife to live and feed,
helping to filter storm water runoff before it goes into our natural bodies of water,
and creating a better quality of life for the residents around the wetland by creating
a peaceful serene place where we can get close to nature.

Every day we do small things to decrease the impact our business has on the
environment.
This includes installing low maintenance landscapes, carpooling,
using natural fertilizers in each of our construction projects, using a moisture
absorbing product to hold water until the plant needs to use it, and using fuel
efficient sales vehicles.

Plantings on roofs help with
water runoff and heating and
cooling cost.
Using a natural design attracts
a wide variety of wildlife and
generally require less
maintenance

Stabilizing banks and planting
flood zones helps to keep
sediment out of our waterways
